What is a colour change wrap?
A colour change wrap uses specialist vinyl film to cover the painted exterior panels of a vehicle. It provides a different route to changing the appearance of a car or van than repainting it.
The vinyl is carefully applied to prepared body panels, following the curves, recesses and contours of the vehicle. Depending on the chosen specification, the wrap can create a finish that is understated, bold, glossy, textured or designed to change appearance under different lighting.
A full wrap normally covers the main exterior painted panels. However, the precise level of coverage should be agreed before work begins. Areas such as door shuts, engine bays and hidden internal sections are not automatically included and may require separate discussion.
A wrap can later be removed by an experienced vehicle graphics professional. However, the condition and history of the original paintwork can affect both installation and removal, so inspecting the vehicle first is important.

How long does a colour change wrap last?
There is no single lifespan that applies to every wrapped vehicle.
The way vinyl ages can depend on the material, finish, installation, mileage, storage, cleaning routine, exposure to sunlight and the position of each panel. Horizontal areas such as roofs and bonnets often receive more direct sunlight than vertical panels.
Different colours and finishes can also age differently. Metallic, pearlescent and colour changing materials may make gradual changes in tone or appearance more noticeable.
Following the correct cleaning advice and dealing with contamination promptly can help keep the wrap presentable. However, vinyl is an exterior material and will naturally change through use, weather and exposure over time.
Looking after a colour change wrap
Gentle hand washing is normally the safest way to clean a wrapped vehicle. Use clean water, mild vehicle shampoo and a soft sponge, cloth or wash mitt.
Avoid harsh chemicals, strong degreasers, solvent based cleaners, abrasive pads and cutting compounds on the wrapped surface. Automatic car washes are not recommended because brushes and repeated mechanical contact can mark the vinyl or place pressure on exposed edges.
Pressure washers should be used carefully. Keep the nozzle at a sensible distance and avoid directing concentrated pressure towards edges, joins, corners and detailed sections.
Bird mess, tree sap, fuel spills and heavy contamination should be cleaned away gently as soon as practical. Do not scrape the surface or use a strong chemical without checking whether it is suitable for vehicle vinyl.

Can any car or van be wrapped?
Many cars, vans, pickups and 4x4s can be wrapped, but the paintwork must be suitable. Loose lacquer, corrosion, unstable repairs and damaged paint may affect adhesion and the finished appearance. We will assess the vehicle before confirming the work.
Will vinyl hide dents or damaged paint?

An exact match cannot always be assured. Existing vinyl can change gradually through sunlight, weather, washing and use. A newly wrapped panel may therefore appear different from older material, even when the same colour reference is used.

You should contact your insurance provider before the work begins. Insurers have their own terms for vehicle modifications and should confirm how a wrap affects your policy.
Will I need to update the vehicle colour on my V5C?
