A Carnival Banner Bringing Generations Together Through Stories
We recently helped St George’s School and Haywood Lodge Residential Home prepare for Astwood Bank Carnival by producing a large printed banner for the side of their float.
Event banners
Measuring 4 metres wide by 1.2 metres high, the banner needed to be large enough to stand out during the carnival procession while clearly representing the story behind their entry.
The artwork was created by CUDOS Creative, with Printmonster producing the finished banner ready to be displayed on the float.
This project is a good example of how large format printing can turn a creative design into a practical display for a school, charity or community event.
A creative brief for Astwood Bank Carnival
The theme chosen by St George’s was:
“Bridging Generations Through Stories: 100 Years of Pooh to 25 Years of Petr.”
The idea was to celebrate the way stories connect people of different ages. Children, school staff and residents from Haywood Lodge were brought together through shared creativity, imagination, storytelling and laughter.
The carnival entry included both a walking float and a main vehicle float, with each part representing a different element of the theme.
The walking float celebrated the 100th anniversary of Winnie the Pooh, a story that has been enjoyed by generations of children and adults. The school was also joined by friends from Haywood Lodge Residential Home, with whom pupils and staff have developed a close relationship.
Their involvement gave the theme additional meaning, showing how familiar stories can create shared memories and conversations between younger and older generations.
Celebrating creativity inspired by Petr Horacek
The main vehicle float was inspired by the 25th anniversary of children’s author Petr Horacek.
Following a visit to the school, Petr read his books with the children and led a drawing workshop involving both pupils and residents from Haywood Lodge.
Further creative workshops were then held in every class, giving each child at St George’s the opportunity to design a character or prop inspired by his work.
The children’s creations were brought together as part of the finished float, creating a colourful celebration of imagination, teamwork and storytelling.
CUDOS Creative designed the banner artwork to communicate this wider theme, while Printmonster handled the large format production of the finished banner.
This collaboration allowed the school’s detailed idea to be presented as one clear and colourful display for the carnival procession.

A large banner produced for the carnival float
The finished banner measured 4 metres by 1.2 metres and was fitted along the side of the vehicle float.
At this size, the design could be seen clearly by people watching the procession while providing enough space to feature the main theme and recognise both St George’s and Haywood Lodge.
